    The presentation took place on 5 May 1917, so current date range can be reduced.

    The location is indeed Hendon.

    "Hucks" is Captain B C Hucks. (Further research tells me this is Captain Bentfield Charles Hucks. He sadly died not long after, in November 1918).

    "Smuts" is Lt. Gen. Jan Smuts.
