US Ambassador Dr Page opens American soldiers' rest home. London.

  • Description

London Eagle Hut - Dr Page US Ambassador opens American soldiers' rest home.

Opens with MS of USA Civil War veterans all very elderly; white bearded men; marching towards camera with large banner saying who they are; London Branch; and 'Not for Ourselves But For Our Country'. They also carry USA & British flags. CU some elderly ladies and men coming down steps of building.

MS Swiss lodge type structure with sign: 'American Head Quarters .... Open to All Allies' and people coming out, one could be Dr Page, some soldiers on balcony; etc. Next a great funny human shot of people; mostly women; posing in front of a giant American flag - one young woman is pushed out from the side into the picture; laughing. Pan across. Shot of the lodge again - people out in front with lots of flags; Stars & Stripes and Union Jack. The Civil War men are there too - it all looks very festive.

Amendment August 2014: A visitor to the site has written in to identify the man carrying the American flag in the opening shots as William Blazey, an American Civil War veteran.
