Elise Mackay was an actress and pioneering pilot.

The SS Tilawa was sunk by a Japanese submarine on 2 November 1942, with the loss of 280 passengers and crew.

"one woman is holding a bouquet of flowers - could be Elsie?" - yes, that's Elsie Mackay.
