The vessel shown being launched in the film is the MV Athellaird, the first of three large bulk molasses tankers built by Cammell Laird in 1929-1931 for the United Molasses Co Ltd.

She was launched on 18th December 1929 by Mrs Dora Kroyer-Kielberg, wife of Danish-born businessman and philanthropist Ferdinand M Kroyer-Kielberg (knighted in 1947 as Sir Michael Kroyer-Kielberg KBE), the founder and chairman of United Molasses.
