• Short Summary

Fantastic story where we see demonstrations of the latest dance crazes at a London studio.

  • Description

Titles read: "LONDON - LATEST IN DANCING".

    Old Bond Street, London.

At Anna Neagle's Fred Astaire Ballroom Dance Studios we see various shots of young people demonstrating the latest dance crazes.

First we see 'The Locomotion' where the dancers move along in a line and blow an imaginary whistle. The music is 'The Locomotion' by Little Eva. Then three couples do the 'Bossa Nova' to 'One-Note Samba'. This is danced with a partner and looks something like modern Salsa dancing.

Next dance is 'The Slop', which seems to involve putting the weight on the heels and lifting up the toes in a kind of 'slip slop' movement while holding hands behind the back or in front (like a 'Suzy Q' grip). We then see a line of dancers doing the original 'line dance' - 'The Madison'! Great stuff!

Notes and brochure on file. Anna Neagle and Herbert Wilcox are not seen here but according to notes they were filmed. Two other dances, the 'Hully Gully' and the 'Mashed Potato' were also cut, unfortunately.

Cataloguer's note: this is a fabulous item! In 1962, new dance crazes seemed to start every week - probably the first time since the 1920s that the world was so dance-craze mad.
