Great footage of Australian land girls at work on a farm.
Part of issue COME THE THREE CORNERS
C/U of sign reading 'Women's Land Army - Women's Australian National Service - Both On First Floor'. (Section of white spacing for seven seconds.)
Shots of women at a training centre for the Women's Land Army of Australia. C/Us of women who are "learning to become farmers' boys". We see the women doing keep fit exercises in shirts and slacks. (Some damage to film in this sequence.)
At Leeton railway station we see a woman in smart uniform greeting three new girls, also in uniform (nicer than British land girls' garb!). Back at the hostel the girls sit around a table and have dinner. Rather dark shot of four women sitting by the fireside, reading magazines and warming their hands.
The next day the women are taken in a truck to a farm. They all wear trousers and sunhats. The farmer gives them instructions and they get to work. Good shots of the women hoeing by hand and by horse. Cheesecake shot of a pretty girl in white shorts bending over and using a hoe. She looks over her shoulder and smiles at us. Another girl sits in a fruit tree picking oranges. C/U of oranges being poured into boxes - "just in case you've forgotten what they look like".
Girls herd some large black pigs along a lane. A woman examines a small pig and puts him on the ground. The women are seen grading wool in a shed. Women sitting in a field pick and trim some kind of vegetables - carrots or turnips?
