He talks about the war, summarises the events of the first year of war, talks about the achievements and sacrifices of British people, the allies and the Commonwealth nations. He talks about the blitz, mentions honourable scars of Buckingham Palace. He tanks all who fight and expresses belief that victory will come. The King announces creation of a new mark of honour for men and women in all walks of civilian life. King gives his own name to this distinction - there will be the George Cross, which will rank next to the Victoria Cross and the George Medal for wider distribution.
