This is film of the King and Queen meeting wounded soldiers, nurses from the local hospitals, including Hoole Bank and Hoole House and Vernon Institute, and also presenting medals and awards. It took place at Castle Square Chester on Monday 14 May 1917. The building on the left is the Regimental HQ of the Cheshire Regiment. Earlier in the day they had visited a factory engaged on war work and also driven in a carriage through Chester.
See Chester Chronicle Saturday 19 May 1917 where the visit is covered extensively including a still photo which is very similar to the position 20 seconds into this film. The visit is also described by Katharine Foote in "Letters from Two Hospitals".
