This event took place on 8th August 1940 at Shirley Common camp, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
The Indian troops were all from the Royal Indian Army Service Corps, sent to provide animal transport for the British Expeditionary Force. (There is another Pathe newsclip that shows them disembarking at Marseille in December 1939). One company was captured with the 51st Division. The other three and their various support units were evacuated from France in June 1940. The Royal visit took place once the survivors had all been brought back together at Ashbourne.
