• Short Summary

Travelogue featuring scenic shots of the landscape and locals of Tahiti and Moorea.

  • Description

Introductory intertitle reads: "Seventeen degrees below the Equator lies the beautiful Paradise of Tahiti and Moorea, with numerous other coral-reefed islets."

Scenic shot of a pacific island shoreline, mountains in the background and palm trees lining the beach - shot from a ship at sea. Shot of the seascape then local people paddling in shallow sea close to shore - probably local fishermen. "Life is easy in these remote island gems.... and the scenery is magnificent, from lagoon to verdant mountain top." (shot missing here)

Various scenic shots of mountains, a house nestled amongst palm trees, a beach scene. "Tragedy, too, lurks here... only this hulk remains of a French Cruiser caught on the coral barrier." Moving shot from a fast boat of a shipwreck which sticks out of the sea. "But, the sunny clime banishes all care in these islands of romance." Various shots of local fishermen including nice M/S of a muscular man standing with legs akimbo and arms crossed smoking a cigarette. He wears nothing but a piece of patterned fabric wrapped around his lower body.

M/S of a group of Caucasian people aboard a boat - they are presumably tourists. Man points out various things to a young girl - his daughter? A group of local children splash around in the sea then walk towards the cameraman. They are nude but looks like they have been told to cover their private parts with their hands! Censorship! L/S of the kids playing in the water. Scenic shot of the sun setting over the water.

Lovely Tahitian traditional music on the soundtrack.

Note: this film is not listed on the issue sheet for PSP724 although the list of intertitles is included with the paper records.
