The commentary is a little off. Stiepl was not a world champion, but he was the current world record holder (with 8:18.9 from Hamar February 3, 1934) when this race took place on January 25, 1935. The German commentary correctly states that his time, 8:21.7 is 24.3 seconds under the track record of Ballangrud, set in 1930.

Other results from the same event: Karl Wazulek 8:27.5 Willibald Tastl 9:05.6 László Orczán 9:07.8 Emil Mozánsky 9:21.6. Gustav Slanec won the 500 m in 45.1 and Wazulek the 1500 m in 2:22.9, where Stiepl clocked 2:24.5.
