• Short Summary

Great footage of shop girls helping the war effort by working on a farm in their holidays.

  • Description

    Titles read: "HOW GIRLS PICK-UP!".

Brief shot of a busy street in London's West End - looks like Oxford Street.

Somewhere in the English countryside we see various shots of attractive West End shop girls working on a farm in their holidays - grooming horses, picking beans in a field (wearing shorts so we get some leg shots!) and having a picnic lunch. Commentator mentions they are helping to make up for the shortage of men working on the land. They are all wearing armbands with a crown motif. One girl powders her nose - they look like they're having a good time! The women lie down in the field for a nap.

At the end of the day the girls go to a country pub and stand outside drinking pints of cider from tankards.

Note: great shots of shop girls helping the war effort - and it looks like good fun. I wonder if there was an added incentive to go - perhaps this was extra holiday added to their annual leave or just a way of getting a countryside holiday.
