Cuts from documentary 'How Britain Votes', in the context of the 1950 Election - Reel 3.

Oxford by-election. Inside Labour Party candidate Mr Kersland-Lewis' committee room we see several shots of local agent seated at table, writing and checking leaflets in filing baskets. Pan along the baskets. Mr Kersland-Lewis comes into room and shakes hands with agent. They talk and walk over to a map on the wall where the agent indicates various points. Poster on wall has a picture of Kersland-Lewis and 'The Man For Oxford - Lewis'.

C/U of a pile of Kersland-Lewis' election leaflets as a hand turns the pages of some of them and picks them up. M/S of middle-aged woman and others folding election addresses and placing them in envelopes. General activity in the committee room - envelope stuffing, people typing letters, checking reports and so on. M/S of Canvas Officer at work at a table in the room; another man sits beside him. M/S of the Meetings Officer talking to another man who shows him some paperwork. A man with a cigarette in his mouth places a pile of Labour Party posters on a table next to some others.

C/U of page of Radio Times magazine, showing panel giving details of 'General Election Broadcasts'. M/S of young woman sitting by a wireless set at home, leafing through the Radio Times. She puts the magazine down and darns a sock while she listens to the radio. Could illustrate person listening to any radio programme at home. C/U of another, smaller radio set.

Two tellers standing outside a (school) Polling Station check voters' cards as they come in and out and make notes in little books. C/Us of their notebooks showing notes of 'Electors' Numbers'. Car with 'Vote -- [indecipherable]' pulls up outside house; man gets out and runs inside. M/S of clock reading 9 o'clock mounted on wall. Exterior shot of Fulham Liberal Association at Gladstone House. Inside we see a man and woman sitting at desks, dealing with paperwork. The man is handed an envelope by another man; he hands the contents to the woman. C/U of 'addressograph' (franking?) machine stamping envelopes.
