    Somewhere in Britain.

    M/S as a train pulls in at London station. An army sergeant carries his kit-bag down the platform, he is going home on leave after long service away. M/S as he enters telegraph office. C/U in a taxi in London heading for another railway station. M/S as he gets on the train, various shots of him on train chatting to fellow passengers. M/S as the steam train arrives at the station. He gets off and smiles. M/S as the ticket collector shakes his hand. M/S as the soldier starts his walk along country lane to where he lives. His wife is also walking along the lane, they see each other, he drops his kit bag, and they run towards each other and embrace. M/S still kissing and embracing they walk to their cottage home and he meets his two young daughters.

    Various shots of the family seated in the cottage having tea. C/U of his slippers by the fire. Various shots of him sitting with his family around the fire, he gives his children a doll each as a present, his wife gets a pair of nylons and other gifts. Good shots of the children. Various shots as they put the children to bed, they say a prayer. The couple then sit together in front of the fire together. The next morning the soldier, still in uniform, looks from his window, various shots of the countryside. Various shots as people of the village make their way to church. The soldier and his family also enter. Various shots as they take their seats in the dimly lit church. M/S boy pumping organ and pan to organist playing. The family stand and sing hymn, the couple hold hands and look lovingly at each other.
