Amendment June 2015: A visitor to the site has provided us with the following information. The film shows the RRS Discovery in Cardiff docks in August 1929. Preparations are seen for the British, Australian and New Zealand Antarctic expedition. The Discovery sailed to the Antarctic in 1929 under the leadership of Sir Douglas Mawson. She served as part of the expedition until its conclusion in August 1931.
The Discovery seen is the one Captain Robert Falcon Scott sailed to Antarctica on, on his first voyage South in 1901. She survived two Antarctic winters, trapped in the ice, before returning to Britain in 1904.
