  1. Michael Lavelle says

Gabriel Lavelle was my father. He died in 1960, when I was 12 years old. I only discovered this video in about 2005, and so when I saw it, it was the first time that I had seen my father moving about since I was a child. At the time that I found the video, my mother was still alive, and she did not know of its existence. It was recorded about 8 years before my parents got married, and she was very moved when she saw it. My father had originally qualified as a civil engineer, but had begun singing as a hobby, and in 1930 went to study German Lieder under the top singing teachers of the time in Vienna. He then had a relatively successful career in music in the 1930s until the war broke out. Mike Lavelle
