Funeral of Krupp factory workers killed during demonstration. Essen, Germany.
Funeral of workers in Essen; who were killed at a demonstration; March; 1923. Germany.
German workers at the Krupp factory walked off the job; protesting among other things the French Army occupation of the Ruhr Valley; in the midst of the demonstration a French soldier fired at the workers.
Shot from above: procession in progress coming down road; over bridge; with factory chimneys in distance. Men (fellow workers?) walking down street carrying many fringed banners and flags with elaborate designs - maybe trade union banners? Closer shots men and boys walking; small marching band playing; etc. Liberty Equality Brotherhood banner.
A star with hammer and sickle emblem held up on a pole; then later a bigger floral version of the same - almost certainly some communist / socialist group. This leads off a succession of people carrying wreaths. Then larger marching band. MS teams of horses pulling wagons carrying the coffins. Large crowd walk slowly behind the procession.
