• Short Summary

Manchester United fans travel on a coach and cheer their team from the stands.

  • Description

Pinewood Stock Can material. 1st February 1958

Various shots of Manchester United football club fans travelling on coach from Manchester to London to watch Manchester United play Arsenal at Highbury.

Lots of rosettes and scarves in their team's colours. They seem to be singing a song. There are men and women on the coach. There is nothing to identify the team they support.

VS of fans cheering in stand. They get to their feet when their team go forward.

Amendment February 2012: A visitor to the website has provided some more information. From some rather remarkable lip-reading, she has worked out that the Man U supporters on a coach are singing Manchester United Calypso.

I know may of the people seen in this clip.
They are indeed Manchester United fans. I am fairly sure that the footage shown is two clips from a documentary that was to form part of a series on itv directed by Daniel Farson.
If so it was filmed on a coach trip from Manchester to London on 1stFebruary, 1958 to watch Manchester United play Arsenal at Highbury.
The filmed event was never shown in the North of England out of respect to the victims of the Munich Air Crash on 6th February. However a friend of mine doing his National Service and stationed in the south did see it as it was screened where he was stationed, I think, in Wiltshire

I was on the trip until do not appear on any the the footage that is shown here.

Further to my comment of 25th January, 2018.
It is definitely footage filmed on 1st February, 1958 and was filmed for the trip as stated in my original comment.
On looking at the footage again, after I had commented, I did recognise myself in the stadium clip.
