  • Short Summary

Floods in Los Angeles include a collapsed bridge.

  • Description

Item title reads: "Flood havoc in USA. Streets turned into swift flowing rivers in California's worst storm for years. "

    Los Angeles, USA

A black man on a bicycle waves cheerily to the camera as he rides through knee high water filling the streets. Shopkeepers are seen trying to keep out the worst with sand bags. The streets have become torrents of water. A car is stuck in the road with water gushing all around it. A man sits in his car, stranded, as the water rushes round his vehicle.

Intertitle reads: " At Whittier, many were killed and injured as bridge collapsed under pressure of rushing torrent."
The broken section of a large bridge stick up out of a muddy scene. A train has fallen half into the water as the bridge collapsed. M/S of one train carriage turned right upside-down. Men look at the scene of devastation.

Note: Useful footage for weather disasters and flooding in 1920's. Great shot of the bicycle man.
