• Short Summary

Great story showing ARP services ready for action thanks to a new automatic controller.

  • Description

    Titles read: "FAST AID!".

    Somewhere in England - London?

Story shows a new automatic Air Raid Precaution controller in action. The contraption is plugged into the electric mains and gives warning to all the defence services as well as sounding sirens, switching off street lighting and putting on lights in shelters - all in ten seconds!

We see an air raid warning being received at headquarters; the controller presses buttons on a consul board. Several shots of civilians hearing the alert, sirens (no natural sound), ARP wardens running into a shelter. Firemen playing cards in their rest room hear the bell ring and set off on their engine. ARP wardens rush out of their shelter and receive instructions beside a bus.

Brief shot of munitions workers in a factory. A roof aircraft spotter looks through binoculars, makes a phone call to tell of danger, then presses the 'spotters button' on the machine, alerting the workers who leave their machines to take cover. Another 'alert' button sees nurses climbing into their ARP ambulances and being driven off past a row of terraced houses.

Note: this is really good ARP footage.
