The game was played on 1 February 1958.

"Old record marks this as controversial match - unclear why." - the match was controversial because of a late tackle by Australian by Jim Lenehan, resulting in an injury to England's Phil Horrocks-Taylor that reduced England to 14 men for much of the game.
