The first images show the Indianapolis at the port of Montevideo, where Roosevelt arrived on the 2nd of December 1936, after assiting to the inauguration of the Inter American Conference en Buenos Aires. The man he embraces is the President of Uruguay, Dr. Gabriel Terra. In the following images the car with both presidentes is escorted by the cavalry regiment named "Blandengues de Artigas". As can be seen in the film, Uruguayan people gave him a very warm welcome, that showed the sympathy that Roosevelt and his New Deal arose in the Uruguayan people, especially regarding the progressive policies of the New Deal, the new relation with Latin America and the stand against fascist regimes. In 1933 the democratic Uruguay had been shocked by a coup d'etat headed by the President Gabriel Terra (who has been elected en 1931), who leaded the right wing parties and economic interests to size power in order to support economic policies that contemplated their interests.
