CU. Eden speaking - natural sound. He says: "Where's my wife, oh, she's not coming to help me. It's grand to be home again after so long an absence, and my surgeon who operated on me told me yesterday that all was well, I would have to have a further period of convalescence, put on some weight, and there was nothing else to worry about. Well now, I only want to add this to you this morning. During the course of the long weeks in the United States, my wife and I have been treated with the utmost kindness by everybody, and I am quite sure to the many of those who wrote to us and sent us good wishes in one form and another, it was just a way of expressing their token of friendship with this country. You would have been thrilled if you could have heard some of the tributes that we heard for the Coronation ceremony. All that shows that there is an underlying good will there, and I'm sure there is here, and its immensely important. But of course we shall have difficulty and differences, in politics from time to time, bit if that good will exists, we can overcome them. Especially when we disagree we can each give the other credit for true... I'm glad to be back, and I look forward to being back at work again as soon as the doctors will let me, but I'm afraid for some weeks, I shall be away yet."
Date found in the old record - 01/08/1953. Natural sound only, quite patchy at the beginning.
