A trainee driving instructor is put through his paces at the Motor Schools Association.
Various shots of a car speeding and skidding around a test circuit at the Motor Schools Association where driving instructors are trained. M/S in an instruction room as a man in a suit, William Brown, stands in the centre of a four-wheeled contraption for testing car reversal technique; he steers carefully to reverse in between two 'kerbs' as another suited man, trainer Bill Esom, watches.
They both walk over to a model of a car engine; the trainer pulls levers and explains the workings to William. Then we see William get into a model car; a woman, Carol Fedo, is sitting in the driving seat. Carol starts to 'drive' and Bill corrects her handling of the steering wheel. M/S from behind William and Carol in the model car; on the wall in front of them are various road signs and some model traffic lights. C/U of the traffic lights as instructions to 'Start', 'Accelerate' and 'Change Up' light up on the wall. C/Us of Carol concentrating while changing gear and of her feet on the pedals.
C/U of a certificate being signed which says the trainee is competent to prepare candidates for the Ministry of Transport Driving Test; the signature is blotted. M/S as CC Tetlock, President of Motor Schools Association, hands the certificate to Colonel H Atherton OBE (Founder-President) on the other side of a table; the Colonel rolls it up and stands up to present it to William and shake hands; there is a large portrait of the Queen on the wall.
C/U of a Motor Schools Association L-plate attached to the front of a car. M/S of our fully trained instructor, William, getting into the car (parked outside The Central Motor Institute / Institution) with glamorous pupil Jacqueline Brown. The girl drives off - with a corner of her full skirt trapped in the car door ! Tsk tsk - she's lost one point already!
