  • Short Summary

Men work on digging out the 'Mistley' which ran aground at Deal.

  • Description

Item title reads: "Digging out a ship. S. S. "Mistley" - driven ashore on Christmas Eve - is being released from her bed of shingle."

    Deal, Kent

M/S back of the huge ship, with the name 'Mistley' Harwich - clearly seen. A team of men, dressed in jackets and cloth caps work at digging the shingle away. They team up to push wooden timbers under the ship and to pull on ropes to shift the vessel.

Note: Gargantuan task for the men - working without machines.
