    The Darby and Joan Club in Streatham, London is featured. This club, for the Old Aged Pensioners of the area is believed to be the first of its kind in Britain. c 1942

    Various shots of the exterior of the club. Elderly people walk up the driveway to the entrance. An elderly couple are welcomed at the door. Various panning shots of the guests at the opening of the club. All elderly, some are widowed, others are spinsters and bachelors. Lord Solberry (?) MP opens the club. C/Us of elderly people.

    Narrator speaks the words of the song "My Old Dutch" over the shot of a couple holding hands. C/U of their hands. The woman then grabs hold of her husband's cheek in a playful fashion, he points to the camera as if to tell her that she is being watched. He then puts his finger to his lips as if to say "Sh!" Panning shot of some of the elderly people. Some sit around a table and look at a menu. High angle shot of a table of elderly women being served with food. High angle shot of a table of men eating their lunch. Various shots of the elderly people eating. Lord Solberry and Mr David Robertson (?) - MP for Streatham talk to some of the club members.

    Shots of men playing snooker and a man sitting two men smoking cigarettes. Film ends with an appeal for funds to keep the Darby and Joan Club going.

    The building seen here is the Woodlands Day Centre, on Leigham Court Road in Streatham, London. It's still open in 2012.

    "Lord Solberry" should read Lord Soulbury, (2 changes needed in text, plus 1 in tags).

    "Mr David Robertson (?)" - yes, he was Conservative MP for Streatham.
