This shows in video and audio a band playing in the "Junior Shield B" section of the Crystal Palace festival - the 6th section down in standard in this year. One might imagine from the audio that we are being shown the champions of the whole event, Foden's Motor Works, but this is clearly not the case, as musical ears will quickly divine.

In 1934, this section was held on the terrace bandstand as shown, and used the set test piece "Gems of Wagner no. 2", which was published by R. Smith & Co. of London. The strain recorded is the final segment of the selection, taken from the opera "Rheingold".

The order of play and some results, as preserved in an original programme, are available online here: http://brassbandresults.co.uk/contests/crystal-palace-junior-shield-b-contest/1934-09-29/
Sadly, the film does not display the order of play number, which would enable us to identify precisely the band that is playing.
