Janet the Chimpanzee creates havoc in the reception and cutting room of Pathe House, London.
M/S of receptionist Jean Buchan sitting at a desk in an office in Pathe House, London, talking on a telephone. On a shelf behind her is a ceramic painted cockerel; seems to be the one seen in the titles of the Colour Pictorials. Putting the phone down she turns to speak to animal trainer William Lenz of Bertram Mills Circus ("Just one of the many personalities who visit Pathe Pictorial every week") who sits in a waiting area with a chimpanzee called Janet. He gives his magazine to Janet and walks off.
M/S and C/U of Janet (wearing cream jumper with red dungarees) rocking in her chair and smoking a cigarette, then flops back in her chair looking bored. "The producer wants his head examined, says Janet" as the chimp knocks her finger on her head. "After all, what's Sabrina got that I haven't, and I'm not just a pretty face" says commentator as Janet sticks her tongue out, licks her lips and yawns.
M/S of the receptionist talking on the phone; C/U of Janet flicking through the pages of a magazine; M/Ss of Janet flapping the magazine, putting it on her head then putting it on the table. She starts rocking, then leaps up and down in her chair. She gets down from her chair and sneaks through a door in the office.
M/Ss of Janet in the cutting room, looking in a bin; numerous film cans on a shelf; Janet sitting at a bench and swinging the handle of the film rewinder. M/Ss and C/Us of Janet operating the moviola and looking at the lamp of the machine, pulling wires etc. Angled M/S of film cans on a shelf. C/U of Janet listening to soundtrack going backwards from the moviola.
Ted Bilsdow (Pathe editor?) comes into the room and sees Janet - he seems to be murmuring 'Blimey!' and goes out again. C/U of Janet pressing buttons on the moviola. Janet stands on the edge of the bin and rifles through lengths of film as commentator says "Janet strikes a familiar cutting room pose - where is that shot I wanted?"
