Susan Gregory a five year old ice skater goes through her paces.
Glebe Ice Skating Rink, Chelsea, London.
L/S of a group of young children on skates being giving an ice skating lesson by Valerie Moon (a gold medalist). The children are taught how to stand on skates and how to pose. Anita Dent is one of the young skaters. Two little girls point their feet and holding out their skirts. Valerie demonstrates the "drag" a kneeling pose. 4 year old Susan Thornton "takes the plunge" but her younger sister Vanessa finds it "precarious". Valerie demonstrates some impressive spins - ending with the splits. She wears a short skirted skating outfit - chilly!
Two parents watch proudly from the balcony - they are Mr and Mrs Gregory. Various shots of their daughter Susan Gregory - she is five years old and a talented skater - pretty impressive. She wears a very cheesy pink skating outfit. She is a protégée of Swiss Instructor Jacques Gerschwiler (sp?) Various shots of Susan going through her paces. High angle shots and M/Ss of her parents. We see Susan fall over but she just gets straight back up again - "she learns to get up with a smile - a happy omen for the youth of today." Susan skates directly at the camera.
Note: newspaper article about Susan and nice promo leaflet for "The Ice Studio" on file.
