  • Short Summary

Fantastic film showing a new invention - button-up rubber stocking protectors!

  • Description

Intertitle reads: "With so much silk-clad ankle about nowadays, one can hardly blame the mud spots for clinging to Eve's stockings. But, here's a novel little rubber protector which baffles 'em".

C/U of woman in hat and fur trimmed coat taking two rubber items from a wrapper. She bends down and there is a C/U of her leg, her foot is on a table. She proceeds to button the rubber stocking protectors around her leg. She lifts her skirts and looks down at both legs. C/U of her feet and calves wearing the protectors whilst standing on a very muddy road. Woman turns and walks down a very muddy street with cars racing by. (May be Buckingham Palace in the background). (There is no pavement).

Was item in Eve's Film Review issue 249.

Note: as can be seen from this film, in the 1920s streets could be very muddy (when was the pavement invented?!). For a woman who had no car, getting mud spots on her stockings from walking along muddy streets was a sign of poverty. Therefore the novelty button-up rubber stocking protectors were not just a silly fashion item but actually an important weapon in class warfare! See other story of the same name.

Safety print exists - show print. Probably to be found in "Fashion, Fun and Fancy" roll.
