  • Short Summary

Nice item showing women participating in all kinds of sport in the 1920s.

  • Description

This item was originally stored in EP 205.

Introductory title reads: "It would take volumes to record the sporting achievements of Eve during the past year, but a glance at prominent champions shows the extraordinary range of woman's activities today. Flying - Frau Fusbahn..." (rest of title obscured by timecode).

Shots of Ms Fusbahn - a woman aviator - arriving somewhere in her plane and being handed a large bunch of flowers. A man looks at some kind of recording instrument - presumably showing how high she has been in the air. L/S of Ms Fusbahn holding the flowers and her dog on a lead. Next up is M. E. Foster. She won the King's Prize at Bisley. M/S of Ms Foster with a basket over her arm. L/S of her starting a motorcycle and driving off.

"Our South African Olympic High-Jumper, Miss Clark, topped 5'3." Slow motion footage of high jump champion in action. "In the Sculling World, Miss Innes, the Champion, shone brightly." L/S of a team of women rowers holding their blades. C/U of one of the girls who laughs. She is rather cute in her little white beret.

"And as a contrast, Miss Joyce Gardner, the first Woman Billiards Champion, demonstrated her ability to handle a cue." Various shots of Joyce playing Billiards. Slow motion C/U of Joyce taking a shot.

"In the Tennis world, our "Betty" worthily upheld British prestige. Various shots of tennis player Betty Nuthall (?) some seen in slow motion.

Ends with intertitle mentioning Sonja Henjie but end shot is missing.
