My grandparents Fred and Mabel Copp worked for Lord Digby firstly in Minterne Magna and then in the 40’s for them in Cerne Abbas, living in a new tied cottage in Abbey Street. I can recall them very well n for drinking the milk too.

My dad Thomas Halford Yearsley’s family also lived in the village for many years. My great grandfather James Hook had been in the Navy n was awarded the DSM. The family lived at Hook Cottage which was demolished when the Sherborne - Dorchester was run thru the village. My grandfather Wilfred Yearsley had a haulage business. My dad was a D Day veteran having been with 7th Btn Somerset Lt Infantry n sadly was captured at Vernon in August 44. After the was he joined the Military Police then returned to Cerne Abbas where he became a master builder. We moved away from Cerne in 64 but would visit it often.
