Trees being dug up for a new road in Rome, the Victophonium played by inventor Mr Shepherd and wagons hauled by electrically driven capstans at Paddington Station.
Titles read: "Caught By The Camera".
Several shots of men working on a huge building site in the valley of Murcia, near the Circus Maximus in Rome, Italy. A new road is being built through the valley, and we see the men digging up trees and moving them to be transplanted elsewhere.
We then see a novel one-man-band played in a nightclub (?) by the inventor of this 'Victophonium', Mr Shepherd. He sits playing a drum kit and blowing on a tuba (there are several other instruments attached), and accompanies a gramophone record. People dance as he plays. C/U of a clock face shows the time at one o'clock.
Various shots at Paddington railway station in London; good shots of steam engines. We see that goods wagons are hauled by by electrically driven capstans here, as smoke and sparks from the engines are considered harmful to goods. A man hitches a rope to a wagon, presses a large button with his foot and the capstan starts to turn, winding the rope around it, as a man unravels the other end of the rope as it turns.
