• Short Summary

Prehistoric caves in Austria, a human funicular in the Tyrol and a bird hospital.

  • Description

Titles read: "Caught By The Camera".

    Various locations of events.

In Austria we see some mountaineering men climbing the Alps to look for some recently discovered prehistoric caves., 4000 feet above sea level. The men explore the caves with flares. Commentator says that the River Steyer has its source here and flows onward to the Danube.

In the Tyrol we see peasants using a kind of human funicular system. A man at the bottom of a hill has a heavy load of earth in a basket to bring up to the top. He fastens a rope around his middle, and his two colleagues, with the other end of the rope around them, run down the hill, thus dragging him up to the top of the steep slope. The rope passes through a pulley in between.

In America (?) we see 70-year-old cobbler Otto Eckl, who runs a bird hospital. Dr Eckl sets the broken leg of a bird with a piece of leather as a splint. He is then seen feeding some birds, past patients that stay around his shop.

Would like to speak to or correspond with someone at British Pathe about this particular video. I believe my great, great grandfather Otto Eckl is the one seen in this video and having seen this the family is curious to know more information about this short film and how they crew came to visit Otto and film him. Any help would be grealty appreciated. THank you.
