We are invited to guess sounds of everyday tasks that have been largely amplified.
Titles read: "Can you believe your ears? (No. 6.) Microphones have queer ideas on certain sounds, which don't always "register" as you'd imagine, especially when largely amplified. For instance, guess this simple sound..."
Probably filmed at Pathe studio, London.
Over dark screen we hear a kind of chunky scraping sound. Cut to M/S of a woman cutting a white bloomer loaf of bread into slices.
Intertitle: "Did you think it was a carpenter's saw? Now try this one." Over a dark screen we hear a sort of knocking sound then a clang of metal. Cut to a woman opening a tin of peaches (?) and pouring them into a glass bowl.
Intertitle: "Not too easy, was it? Well, what wild animal makes this sound?". Over dark screen we hear a sort of regular grunting noise. Cut to a woman using a carpet sweeper.
Intertitle: "Now, gentlemen. To some possibly the sweetest sound of all." Over the dark screen we hear a sort of strangled noise, then someone gasping. Cut to shadow outline of someone drinking a tankard / pint of ale and wiping his chops afterwards.
