• Short Summary

Film stars Greer Garson and Hedy Lamarr sign autographs for charity in Washington.

  • Description

Titles read: "CALLING ALL STARS" (Dublin issue).

Washington DC, United States of America.

On the steps of a large building (US Treasury?) we see a gathering of film stars who are there to sign autographs for charity. Huge crowds, including several servicemen, watch the proceedings.

Quick L/S pan across a group of stars posing with Secretary of US Treasury Henry Morgenthau - those recognised by this cataloguer are Greer Garson, James Cagney, Ann Rutherford, Irene Dunne, Hedy Lamarr, Ann Sothern (?), Ginny Sims (?), Larry Adler (?).

Morgenthau makes a speech (not heard) then we see Greer Garson signing charity autographs. Elsewhere, bandleader Kay Kyser and Hedy Lamarr sit at a table and sign autographs.

L/S of film stars waving from the rostrum - others spotted here include Spring Byington and Abbott and Costello.

Note: woman to left of Greer Garson could be Ida Lupino or Martha Raye.
