• Short Summary

PC Bert Slight is seen at work on a few of his many hobbies.

  • Description

    Forest Gate, London.

Various shots show Police Constable Bert Slight on his police moped, going about his work as an accident inquiry officer; he asks an old lady some questions on her doorstep.

We then see several shots of Bert at his hobbies; restoring old-fashioned guns / firearms; painting reproductions of Old Master paintings; painting one of an army of hand-moulded and hand-painted lead soldiers.

Commentator tells us Bert is also an expert engraver, embroiderer, angler, cook, radio engineer, dressmaker, military historian, antique collector, and a DIY wizard about the house. Does he win the title of Colour Pic King of Hobbies?

Note: there is a small news cutting on file about Bert. Cuts exist - see separate record.

Bert Slight is my dad he retired from the Police in 1973 after 25 years, I was 7 years old then. The lady opening the door was my Grandma Lilly my mums step mum she lived in Outram Road East Ham. My dad sadly died in 1985 aged 59 & my Grandma a couple of years later. My mum still lives in the house which my dad is seen with his hobbies. I have the copy of the edited film which mum traced through Pathe News about 20 years ago.
