    Flt Lt Adam achieved the record on 30 June 1937.

    "M J Adam" is Maurice Adam.

    The altitude achieved was nearly 53,937 feet, or about 10.2 miles. Here's a magazine article of the era reporting the achievement....

    The man to the right of Flt Lt Adam as he speaks is Wing Commander J W Woodhouse.

    The aircraft behind them is a Bristol 138 monoplane.

    Sadly, Maurice Adam was killed just a year later in an aircraft crash. Attached is his obituary....
