    L/S's of King George VI (Duke of York / Prince Albert) and Queen Elizabeth (Duchess of York / Queen Mother) in open topped carriage passing through the gates Buckingham Palace (London), at the start of a journey which will end in Canada. Large crowds line the route as the royal procession passes over Waterloo bridge. M/S's of several dignitaries waiting at Waterloo Station to say farewell to the King and Queen including the Duke of Kent (Prince George) and the Duchess of Kent (Princess Marina of Greece), the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester (Prince Henry and Lady Alice Montagu Douglas Scott). Good M/S of the Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain.

    Several good M/S's and C/U's of the King and Queen saying farewell to numerous dignitaries at the station. M/S's of Queen Mary (Princess of Teck), Princess Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth II). Good M/S of the Queen waving before she climbs onto the carriage of the train.

    L/S of the Portsmouth skyline, Admiral Nelson's flagship the HMS Victory is visible. The royal train pulls into the station. L/S's of the King and Queen shaking hands with the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire and the Lord Mayor. Several shots of the King and Queen receiving the keys tot he freedom of Portsmouth Castle in a ceremony outside the Guildhall. Large crowds wave small Union Flags ('Union Jacks') and cheer.

    L/S's of the royal couple and the Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret leaving in open topped car. Various shots of the royal family boarding the merchant ship the 'Empress of Australia'. L/S of the large ship leaving the dock for Canada.

    "King and Queen saying farewell to numerous dignitaries" - these include, at 00:39, Robert Holland Martin (Chairman of the Southern Railway), and at 00:57, Samuel Hoare and Lord Halifax.

    "the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire" - this is Lord Mottistone.
