• Short Summary

Bantu Africans taught to play western instruments by white instructor who forms a brass band.

  • Description

Titles read: "BLOW THE BANTU BOYS!"

    South Africa.

Various shots of Bantu Africans playing a primitive xylophone, then a harmonica and a concertina, the latter under the direction of a white instructor. Several shots of African men being taught how to play a scale on brass wind instruments by the same instructor. He points at notes on a blackboard and the men play their instruments separately, then all together.

A tuba player buttons up his 'brass band' uniform and we see the whole band marching along a street while playing their instruments (natural sound). Their white instructor leads the way (without an instrument); large crowds of Africans watch from the streets.

The tone of the voiceover is very condescending; final remark is "And, of course, they're especially keen on the black notes!".
