• Short Summary

A look at pedal powered flying machine, the ornithopter.

  • Description

Title reads: "Bird man may fly soon!"

    Cranfield, Bedfordshire.

Interior of aircraft hangar, looking down on the ornithopter. Various C/Us of sections of the flying machine. It looks like an aeroplane except it has feathered wings that flap like a birds, it is powered by pedals. The inventor is Emiel Hartman (not seen in item).

Library material. Various shots of man trying out another pedal-powered flying contraption. The inventor is named in paperwork as Mr. E. Winter. He does not succeed in getting the machine off the ground. Looks like footage is from 1920s (according to paperwork it's 1929. Narrator seems to find this quirky invention comical.
