Comedian Billy Bennett does some tricks and tells jokes in the studio.
No titles. Comedian Billy Bennett.
Probably filmed in Pathe Studio, London.
Billy Bennett walks onto set where a man stands beside an easel. Bennett says if someone in the audience will suggest a celebrity, he will draw a lightning cartoon of them in two seconds. A voice off-camera calls out 'Gladys Cooper'. Bennett says 'Douglas Fairbanks? Certainly sir!". He fiddles about at the easel, then tears off a sheet of paper to reveal a caricature of someone - not sure who, but doesn't look like Fairbanks to me, or even Gladys Cooper! The other man carries the easel out of shot.
Bennett then takes a pack of cards, saying if anyone wants to come on the stage and examine the pack, "I shall be very pleased if you'll stop where you are and mind your own business"! He gets someone to suggest a card and a voice says "The ace of spades". Bennett looks in the pack, says "perfectly correct sir!" (and that's the end of the trick!).
The assistant comes back on with a bird in a cage. Bennett puts a large black cloth over it and makes it disappear. When the assistant turns, we see the cage is strapped to his back.
The assistant brings on a small dummy and Billy does a bit of crosstalk with it. Billy says he is going to sing and drink underwater. The assistant brings on a glass of beer for Billy and stands beside him while the dummy sings 'Show Me The Way To Go Home'. Billy takes a drink of beer and the assistant carries on singing for the dummy. Billy suddenly spits out his beer, saying the assistant has spoilt it, and water and bits of fruit and vegetables (?) are thrown at the pair as the shot fades out.
