    LS pan right to left of barricades dividing East and West sectors of Berlin. MS guards patrolling Russian sector. CU man sending Morse code by flashlight and being received over the border by switching house lights on and off - this is how some people receive messages over the border. VS shots of stills of children separated by the wire, from their loved ones. VS guards patrolling the wall and plus more stills portraying the hardship of the wall. VS during the building of the wall look out towers, barbed wire, fencing. LS people escaping through the wire, guards help pull them through CU as they walk past camera. MS people watching television. MS people listening to wireless on a car radio. CU Khrushchev speech. VS the wall being built reinforced concrete slabs being put into place. LS of the wall. LS people escaping over the border by means of jumping from third floor of building they throw their belongings tied up in a sheet out first then jump of climb out through the window. People help pull them down. Remarkable shot of an elderly woman being lifted down from third floor. VS demonstrations small Russian armoured vehicle fire gas pellets at rioters. VS stills people shot while escaping through barbed wire they are seen trapped in the wire. LS Russian guards carrying would be escaper after being shot. VS of graves of people who did not make the escape over the border. VS of American soldiers sight seeing in Berlin. VS flashback to American and British army entering Berlin at the end of the war - this is all Pathe Library material. Shots of atrocities from concentration camps, captured German officers surrendering from their bunker hideout. VS the Berlin pact being signed. Pan down to the Brandenberg gate pan over refugees crying for food, women carrying water, Russian troops, working parties clearing up rubble from bombed housing.

    Seen being pulled from the River Spree at 2:12 is Gunter Litfin, the second victim of the Berlin Wall.

    Being carried away at 2:14 is the body of Peter Fechter, another early victim of the wall.
