    LS. & MS. Row of searchlights at night. LS. Rockets launching pad at night - rocket has a giant balloon which is to be released and inflated in space for data gathering. LS. Pad as Thor rocket fires, pan up with rocket's flare trail. Shot from nose of booster rocket of the capsule as it continues to climb after release. Several shots of the scientists following progress of the rocket on the instruments. Rocket blows up prematurely.
