American troops train in France, 1917.
US Army troops training in France.
MS of the newly arrived troops boarding train: soldiers; loaded with all their gear; crowding towards train and climbing into carriages. Then shot from just above soldiers marching towards camera and underneath.
Training: the Americans learn to deal with the mud of World War One battlefields; shot of horse artillery driving over boards placed across the path. Horse artillery on road; followed by a few soldiers walking and a big tractor. Trucks driving on very muddy road.
MS as US troops practise in field with big guns; digging gun pits. Soldiers walking single file over bumpy ground. MS coming out of dugout or tunnel. Americans firing big French howitzer. Then firing machine guns.
Pan on grassy field as line of soldiers emerge from trench some distance away; climbing out on the far side - not hurrying at all; just strolling away! Another artillery team load and fire gun. Soldiers carry stretcher with a wounded comrade; they lay it on ground and start to unbutton his jacket and give first aid.
