• Short Summary

Library shots illustrate the American war effort, including reason for petrol rationing.

  • Description

    Titles read: "AMERICA AT WAR".

Library shots of U-boats at sea in Atlantic Ocean.

Various shots of car owners queuing for petrol ration cards. A woman drives her car into a filling station. The attendant checks her card and says she is allowed three gallons (this is from 42/47 - Petrol - Permits Permitting).

Montage of shots shows why the war needs petrol. Mechanised units, lorries and tanks moving across training grounds.

Air to air shots of American bombers. Large guns in action on ranges, firing into the hillside. Gliders are towed by aeroplanes and take off. Air to air shots of the glider formation as they come in to land.

Note: all the above footage seems to be library shots and will probably be found in other newsreel issues.
