Pilots climb into their planes; great shots of fighter bombers taking off from an aircraft carrier. Seaplanes are catapulted from a ship and the fleet is ready for action. Various shots of the fleet with a barrage of guns firing onto the coastal defences of the Japanese; L/Ss of the islands. The enemy aircraft try to attack the fleet but they are knocked out of the sky by the ship's guns. British-owned Makin Island, now occupied by the Japanese, is also attacked. L/S of a column of black smoke rising from one of the islands. Various shots of the Pacific Fleet making its way back to the base as commentator lists the enemy losses.
