    M/S of a large crowd wearing summer clothes sitting on the grass by the boating lake at Butlin's Holiday Camp in Clacton, Essex on a hot summer's day; M/S of a large comedian man wearing a white 'Butlins' hat sitting in the crowd and blowing up a rubber ring, while a lady next to him in sunglasses and summer dress looks on and laughs. M/S of two middle-aged women in sun hats and a man looking on.

    M/Ss of the large man getting into a kind of kayak canoe with the ring round his neck, as a smaller man in sailor suit gets in the front with an oar; two girls in the crowd watching and laughing; commentator says "...the boating lake at this Clacton holiday camp is not more than a few inches deep; but just the same, at the weekly regattas held on it, anything goes, and the contestants do well to finish the course, let alone win". M/Ss of the canoe being pushed into the lake (large man has 'Lifesaver' written on his back) where it immediately capsizes; a family of three in the crowd look on, the mother and boy eat orange ice-lollies; the large man and sailor stand in the water and berate the man who launched them, splashing water with the oar.

    C/U of a man speaking through a loudhailer with the crowd seen behind him; high angle M/S of lots of men in swimming trunks rushing to pack into rowing boats for a race; some have as many as five in them and start to sink; various shots of the men climbing into boats, turning them upside down to get rid of the water, and the crowd looking on and enjoying the fun.

    M/Ss of some single men in boats rowing; the large man walks through the lake with a girl in a swimsuit over his shoulder while the sailor tries to splash water on her face; large man falls over taking the girl with him. Groups of men in swimwear in boats are being pushed along, paddling with their hands to finish the race; the large man and sailor sit in a sinking boat, trying to get rid of the water with their hands.

    Note: good audience / crowd scenes.
