Extracts from a stage production which features the fabulous Delysia and Lady Tree.
"In a dramatic playlet, Delysia is somewhat ill-treated (at least you'd think so!) for refusing to betray a benefactor - " Delysia, dressed in unglamorous pauper style clothes walks across the stage in fear as a menacing man threatens her (an "apache" perhaps). The stage scene suggests a dingy dockland location. "Lady Tree's remarkable make-up" C/U of Lady Tree who looks like an old hag! She wears rags and is heavily made up. She smokes a pipe. Back at the docks, Delysia is thrown down upon the stage by the menacing man. Much melodramatic style acting - passion is suggested. He grabs her by the hair, drags her along then drops her.
C/U of Lady Tree laughing at Delysia's misfortune. The menacing man leaves the stage. "Have you heard "Say it with Music"? Here's where Delysia started it..." M/S of the stage. Chorus crowd around Delysia who wears a very glamorous costume with a large feathered headdress. Pierrots play oversized musical instruments. Delysia sings and chorus girls dance. "And the Dress Parade!" L/Ss of the ornate costumes. "In case Adam missed anything - " Closer shots of the weird and wonderful outfits, linked by dissolves.
Note: there are two stories on this reel showing "Mayfair and Montmartre" - easy to confuse them.
