    Introductory intertitle reads: "Here's the queerest lift of all - it transfers canal barges from a low-level river to a high-level canal, or vice versa at Anderton on the River Weaver."

    Various shots of the mechanism that lifts and moves barges. Facts and figures are given in intertitles. C/Us of cogs which move the mechanism. M/S of barge emerging from the "lift". M/S of a barge - three middle aged women in shawls sit on the barge. Sign on the side reads: "Potter & Son, Runcorn." High angle shot of the barge moving along the canal. M/S of families on board their barges. Three men in flat caps hold dogs. A child stands and smiles at the camera.

    Was an item in Pathe Pictorial issue number 688.

    Note: not sure which county Anderton is to be found in - not listed in road atlas. Possibly Cheshire.
